Celebrating 3 Years of the Climate Change Collective: Why Talking About Climate Change Matters
Three years ago, the Climate Change Collective was born out of a simple idea: to start a conversation. What began as an idea between bloggers has grown into a series of posts, reflections, and responses, all with one shared goal—to raise awareness and inspire action on climate change.
As we celebrate this milestone, it’s worth reflecting not only on what we’ve accomplished together, but also on why it’s so important to keep talking about climate change.

This post is a part of our Climate Change Collective conversations. Michelle at Boomer Eco Crusader is starting off our conversation this month with her post “Celebrating 3 Years of Climate Change Awareness and Environmental Education.” Learn more about the Climate Change Collective below.
Why Talking About Climate Change Matters
1. Silence breeds inaction
Climate change is one of the biggest challenges humanity faces, yet it’s easy to push it aside when it feels overwhelming or politically divisive. The danger is that silence leads to inaction. Every time we speak about climate change—at the dinner table, in classrooms, in workplaces, or online—we remind ourselves and others that serious and impactful climate change is already upon us and we all need to take action.
2. Awareness leads to empowerment
When we understand the causes, impacts, and solutions to climate change, we gain the power to make better choices. From cutting down on waste to rethinking transportation or supporting sustainable businesses, knowledge transforms helplessness into hope and action. The challenge is that we often don’t know what we don’t know—so opportunities for change don’t even cross our minds. By sharing and discussing simple ways to reduce our footprint, we bring these options to the forefront, making small, everyday changes that, together, create a much bigger impact.
3. We counter misinformation
Misinformation about climate change is widespread and persistent. Open, honest discussions can provide a counterweight to myths and denial. By sharing accurate information in an accessible way, we can help those around us (and ourselves!) separate fact from fiction.
4. Stories inspire change
Big statistics can feel abstract, but personal stories resonate. When we share their own eco-journeys—struggles, successes, and lessons learned—we show that change is possible. One person’s story can inspire another’s action.
5. The ripple effect is real
Talking about climate change doesn’t just stay within the group. Readers share ideas with friends, family, and their communities. What begins as a blog post can grow into conversations that ripple outward, influencing more people than we’ll ever know.
“You have to act as if it were possible to radically transform the world. And you have to do it all the time” — Angela Davis
Talking about Climate Change: Three Years On
Over the past three years, the Collective has published many posts covering topics from everyday eco-friendly habits to the intersection of climate change with health, finance, transportation, and food systems. We’ve learned, questioned, encouraged, and—most importantly—kept the conversation going.
Our collaborative model, where one blogger leads each month and others respond, has shown the power of multiple voices tackling a shared concern. Together, we’ve built not just a blog series, but a supportive community of writers and readers who care about the planet.

Talking About Climate Change: Looking Ahead
As we move into our fourth year, we will continue to:
- Keep talking – Every post, every comment, every shared link matters.
- Keep learning – Climate science evolves, and so must our understanding.
- Keep acting – Awareness without action won’t solve the crisis, but awareness is what makes action possible.
The Climate Change Collective began as a conversation. Three years later, it’s proof that when we talk openly about climate change, we build the foundation for real change.
Here’s to many more years of awareness, education, and collective action.

The Climate Change Collective
This post is a part of our Climate Change Collective conversations.
The Climate Change Collective was born out of an exchange that took place between Michelle and Jamie in the comments section of a Jamie Ad Stories blog post. Jamie and Michelle both care deeply about the impact of human activity on our planet and wanted to find a way to keep the climate change message top of mind for everyone. A tweet was sent out, bloggers responded, and we’ve all now teamed up to create the Climate Change Collective! Learn more about the bloggers behind this group in our post introducing everyone: Get to Know our 5 Fantastic Climate Change Collective Bloggers.
The idea is simple. The members of the collective will take turns writing a monthly blog post sharing their concerns and unique perspective about climate change. After the post is published, the rest of the group will keep the conversation going by sharing a link to the post on their blogs along with their thoughts and ideas. If you’re a like-minded blogger and would like to join our collective, please get in touch. The more the merrier!
