Eat local in every season: 3 ways to use rhubarb
It can be challenging to eat local outside of the summer season in southwestern BC. The crops that grow are somewhat limited compared to the abundance of summer, and sometimes you have to be a bit creative to use what’s in season. Rhubarb is a cold weather plant that begins to produce early in the year and so is a great way to add variety to local fare in the spring season. Rhubarb was always in our garden growing up, and we used it mostly to make each other cringe by eating it raw, and in coffee cake. However, there are many more ways to use rhubarb than just these!…

I was finding that the little people (and sometimes big people!) were often tired and hungry at the end of the day and I was finding it difficult to spend a lot of time preparing dinner in the kitchen. But my well-intentioned bulk food preparation day just wasn’t happening! I tried to make a couple of meals and ended…

Eat Local in Every Season: Pumpkin
Though summer and it’s abundance of produce is at an end I’ve decided, between my garden and our local producers, to attempt to continue using local vegetables as a mainstay of our diet throughout the fall and winter. This is new to me and so I’m documenting the foods and recipes I try in hopes that you’ll join me in attempting to eat local and seasonal produce year-round! Selecting a Pumpkin I had actually wanted to write this post a couple of weeks ago but my pumpkin had gone bad. It turned in a much shorter time period than I thought possible, so going forward all my pumpkins and other…
