Why to Get Involved in Plastic Free July 2023
Plastic Free July 2023 is almost here! Krista and I first learned about Plastic Free July three years ago when we started our blog. Since then it has become one of my favourite months of the year. It is so encouraging to see how the Plastic Free July movement has grown and to see people focusing on trying to reduce the plastic in their lives. Since Plastic Free July is right around the corner, I wanted to introduce the month and share some ways to get involved.

Participating in Plastic Free July 2023
Participating in Plastic Free July is easy! You can do as much or as little as you like for the month. If it is your first time participating in Plastic Free July, it can feel overwhelming at first–at least it was for me! There is a lot of plastic information and facts out there and, once you start looking, there is a lot of plastic to be found in our houses. That’s why I suggest to do as much or as little as you want to. Go all in and 100% plastic free if that is your style or take things slow and steady.

Hi Alison, Thanks for the shout out. I’m looking forward to learning more and finding new ideas this Plastic Free July. We’ll be travelling later in the month and I’m already thinking about more ways to reduce waste and plastic during our trip.
A Sustainably Simple Life
I hope you have so much fun on your trip! 😀
Michelle (Boomer Eco Crusader)
Thank you! I’m really excited about it.

I have been trying to gradually reduce my plastic but I’m not sure which plastic actually gets recycled!
A Sustainably Simple Life
That’s a really good point! Recycling, while great, is such an imperfect system and it is hard to know what will actually get recycled in the end.

I’ve just written a post about this too on my mindful living blog (https://mindfulslowlife.com/2023/06/29/plastic-free-july-a-guide-to-reducing-plastic-waste-and-living-sustainably/) , literally just hit publish now, haha! Hope you have a great plastic free July!

We need more shops like https://www.fleet-scoop.co.uk/ – local to me and hugely popular, my kids love going there and measuring/weighing items in reusable tupperware etc. Looking forward to the month and seeing what other ideas people have.
A Sustainably Simple Life
What a great shop to have access to! I love that your kids love it too 😀

Plastic Free July is a great movement, and you included some fantastic ways to get involved. I’ve slowly been swapping out plastic products for eco-friendly alternative and reducing my use of single use plastics.
A Sustainably Simple Life
Thanks Karalee! That’s awesome that you’ve been on this journey of reducing plastics too 🙂
