Looking Back at our 2024 Blogging Year
The beginning of a new year is a natural time for reflection. A new year marks the passing of time, a fresh start. With all of my health challenges this last year, I’ve been in quite a reflective mood just in general. So as the new year starts, I thought I’d take a look back at our 2024 year of blogging. Our 2024 Year of Blogging This blogging reflection generally happens often, but the actually putting it down on paper seems to happen every two years. The last time I made a post like this it was about our 2022 blogging year. In a way these posts feel a bit…

7 Ways to be an Eco-Friendly Pet Owner
This year my family and I adopted a new pet family member, picture below! We love the fun, entertainment, and companionship of having a pet, but having a pet also comes with an environmental footprint. We lost our last cat in 2019 and starting the journey with our new pet has had me thinking about ways to incorporate sustainable practices into our decisions. Behind the Blog: Introducing Krista
Krista and I have been writing this little sustainability blog for three years now and it’s a project we are so proud of. In all of the things we talk about, though, ourselves is rarely one of them. This week, I’m taking some time to introduce Krista to you all. I hope you love her as much as I do! Getting to Know Krista Krista and I met over 10 years ago when we were in a small study group together. We met…

Mother’s Day again! It’s hard to believe it but it’s already May! Not sure about you, but the year really seems to be flying by. May is a busy month for us with birthdays, anniversaries, and of course, Mother’s Day. My son just had his birthday and at the end of his “birthday week” where we’ve had many wonderful celebrations, he said that he hadn’t had enough time with me, and I felt the same. It’s so easy for occasions where we’re trying to celebrate a person or event, to be taken over by doing the stuff of the celebration. My wedding was small and wonderful, but there was still…

Winter garden update and seeds to start now
Its garden time! Today I’m sharing how my winter garden plants did and what seeds I’m starting now. I’ve also been watching helpful videos and tracking down some items I’ll need for the year, so will share those with you to help start your garden planning! A great place to start is finding out when you can sow or start the plants you’d like for your garden. Get inspired by reviewing the Westcoast Seeds planting chart by region here! Residential solar panels: 2022 year in review
Why solar panels? In study after study, it has been found that our planet is warming. And a significant part of the emissions that are causing this change in climate can be traced to the energy used to warm and cool our homes. Many people think climate change mainly means warmer temperatures. But temperature rise is only the beginning of the story. Because the Earth is a system, where everything is connected, changes in one area can influence changes in all others. The consequences of climate change now include, among others, intense droughts, water scarcity, severe fires, rising sea levels, flooding, melting polar ice, catastrophic storms and declining biodiversity.
