Behind the Blog: Introducing Alison

As a companion post to last week’s re-introduction that Alison posted of me, I’m sharing about her! I hope you enjoy getting to know her beyond the details on our About Page!

Getting to Know Alison

I think one of the first things Alison and I bonded over was our shared love of salt and vinegar chips. From there we’ve moved on to finding treasures in thrift shops, going for walks, and dreaming about buying a chateau in France.

It’s hard to narrow down what to share because there’s so much! For example she’s incredibly thoughtful and comes up with the most personal gifts, a few of which she’s posted about on the blog.

I so admire that when Alison says she’s going to tackle a new habit or a big goal, she keeps at it faithfully, small step after small step, until the goal is accomplished!

Below are a few pictures from adventures far away and closer to home:

Alison and 3 Things

From things I admire to some great blog posts, here’s a few lists of three things about Alison!

3 things I admire about Alison

1. Her ability to crystallize her thoughts into impactful words.
2. Her adventurous spirit – she’s recently taken up snowboarding!
3. Her care for those around her – she always seems to be coming up with unique ways to brighten someone’s day!

3 facts about Alison

1. She grew up in a small town on Vancouver Island.

2. One of her hobbies is entering contests, and she wins some very random items!

3. She has the most amazing array of mid-century items handed down from her grandma (I’m so jealous of these treasures!)

3 Q & A’s with Alison

K: What is your favourite sustainable swap?

A: Shampoo bars is by far my favourite! I was in the fence at first because they seemed expensive, but once I gave my first one a try there was no going back. One bar lasts so long and I love not having big plastic bottles in my shower.

K: What is something you’ve done or accomplished that you are proud of?

A: Last year I started taking some college courses which ended up leading me to a whole new career path. I’m proud of myself for taking a chance and for doing something new and challenging. Starting a new career feels daunting, but I am really enjoying the process!

K: What are three of your favourite things?

A: 1) Rainstorms; 2) The sight, sound, and smell of the ocean; 3) Seeing people get excited about nature. Like when they smile about a cute animal or stop in awe at a rainbow.

Alison is truly the heart and soul of our blog! She creates our monthly newsletters, she manages communications and the techy details of the blog, all while sharing creative and insightful posts.

I love how she uses all of the experiences of life to continually refine her approach to sustainability, finances, and life in general – and how she shares that journey with the rest of us through the blog!

It was great to read this about Alison. She was a big help to me last year when I was planning a trip to Vancouver Island. I never would have visited the Ladysmith bakery or seen the goats on the roof in Coombs without her. There’s nothing like input from a local when travelling!
