6 Easy Ways to Reuse Prescription Pill Bottles
Since my injury a few months ago, I have accumulated quite a collection of empty prescription pill bottles. I’m someone who loves to reuse things before tossing them, so of course I’ve been thinking of how I can reuse pill bottles as they accumulate. Today I’m sharing some of those ideas for easy ways to reuse prescription pill bottles.
Ideas for How to Reuse Pill Bottles
While prescription pill bottles are what I’ve been thinking about reusing lately, a lot of these ideas could also be used for vitamin, or other small, bottles too.
1. Travel containers for toiletries
Pill bottles can have great seals on their caps, so this makes them ideal for taking shampoo, conditioner, or lotion on a trip. Keep in mind, depending on your trip, you’ll likely want to remove their labels from your bottles.
2. Packing vitamins or pills for a trip
This is best for a local trip as it might not play well with airport or international security, but I’ve been using pill bottles for packing my vitamins or over the counter medicine for some short trips–so much better than packing multiple bottles.
3. Organize beads and other small crafty items
Whether it’s beads for making necklaces or sewing needles, pill bottles can make great containers for sorting and storing small items.
4. Store your jewelry
Whether it’s protecting a pair of earrings in a suitcase or keeping a ring set together, pill containers can be used to store your jewelry.
5. Make crafts
There are tons of creative upcycle crafts out there for reusing pill containers including these fun ones:
Making Pill Bottle Pumpkins via My Frugal Halloween
Winter Crafts: Upcycle a Pill Bottle into a Snowman! via Crafting a Greener World
Transform your old pill bottles into decorative storage containers via Modge Podge Rocks
6. Donate empty pill bottles to others
You may not have a reason to upcycle your pill bottles, but that doesn’t mean they have to go in the bin! There might be local organizations near you that can reuse your empty pill bottles. Before donating, make sure your empty pill bottles are clean and have the labels removed.
Some places to donate to:
i. grade school classrooms (check with your local school or teacher friends!)
ii. animal rescue organizations
iii. homeless shelters
iv. Aurora United Church in Ontario has these on their donation wish list
v. Matthew 25 Ministries in Ohio requests pill bottles for their humanitarian aid work
vi. Youth groups doing community work, such as the Scouts in Nova Scotia
5 Reasons to Reuse Your Items Before Throwing Them Out
Some people might be wondering ‘why bother to reuse pill bottles?’ I love reusing items for so many reasons.
These are a few of them:
1. Reusing items saves money by reducing the number of things I need to buy.
2. Reusing items saves waste from going to the landfill.
3. Reusing items lowers my carbon footprint removing the need for new items to be manufactured and shipped.
4. Reusing items can be fun and helps me think creatively.
5. Reusing items can help inspire others to make greener and more sustainable choices.

I hope you continue to recover and heal from your injury, it’s never nice to experience a disruption to our health like this so I am continuing to send you positive vibes! As for the ideas about the pill bottle, this is such a good idea. Between my husband and I, we end up with quite a few empties like this that we could make (re)use of. Fab!
