    #MoneyMasterClass Recap-Week 44

    October 31, 2020 /

This week Gail focused on asking Money Master Class participants daily questions about life and finances. The topics she touched on were: credit scores, wills, power of attorney, taxes, life and disability insurance, and investing. Credit Scores Gail has been pretty vocal during this year about how the credit score system is a scam. 7 Ways to Reduce Your Waste This Halloween

    October 30, 2020 /

Any holiday and celebration can create a lot of waste. Halloween with its abundance of candy wrappers and one-time-wear costumes is no exception. To help make this Halloween a little more financially and environmentally sustainable, we’re sharing seven ways to reduce your waste. Ways to Reduce Your Waste This Halloween 1. Shop second hand stores for decorations (or make your own!) Since seasonal decorations are put out for such a short time, shopping second hand stores or online marketplaces are a great way to save money on these items. The added bonus is that second hand items are better for the environment as they create less waste! If you feel…

Eat Local in Every Season: Pumpkin

    October 27, 2020 /

Though summer and it’s abundance of produce is at an end I’ve decided, between my garden and our local producers, to attempt to continue using local vegetables as a mainstay of our diet throughout the fall and winter.  This is new to me and so I’m documenting the foods and recipes I try in hopes that you’ll join me in attempting to eat local and seasonal produce year-round! Selecting a Pumpkin I had actually wanted to write this post a couple of weeks ago but my pumpkin had gone bad. It turned in a much shorter time period than I thought possible, so going forward all my pumpkins and other…

    #MoneyMasterClass Recap-Week 43

    October 24, 2020 /

This week included a lot of talk about different types of savings–from retirement savings to saving for children’s education. Saving for Retirement The week started off talking about saving for retirement. One important point that stood out to me was that saving for the future means that you are caring for your future self. Living for the moment is important, but so is preparing for the future. Questions About Retirement Savings How much do I save? When do I start saving? There was a lot of discussion about RRSPs and retirement savings this week. How much you need to save will be dependent on how old you are and how much…

    Waste Reduction Week: Upcycled T-Shirts

    October 20, 2020 /

This past August we featured a series that focused on five fast fashion facts and five questions with a sustainable, slow fashion brand. In this instalment of the series, we shared that fast fashion has driven consumers to purchase, and dispose of, many more garments than in the past. Furthermore, due to the poor quality of many of these textiles, most are not able to be recycled or sold in second-hand shops. As this is Textiles Tuesday in #wastereductionweek we’re sharing a few ways to re-use your old t-shirts that will keep them in use, keep them out of landfills, and maybe replace a single-use disposable item as well! Dryer…
