10 Fun and Frugal Spring Activities To Do With Kids!
Spring is in the air here in Southwestern BC and with it comes festivals, holidays, and lots of fun and frugal things to do! Today I’m sharing a few of my favourite (and budget-friendly) spring activities. Check out these past posts for other fun seasonal activities:

Cherry Blossoms
Cherry blossoms are one of my favourite parts about spring! Many trees in my area turn into fluffy clouds of pink and white and just make me so happy every time I see them. Many areas of the world celebrate this time of year with festivals and activities including Vancouver and here are a few ideas for you to join in wherever you are!
- Walk around a local neighborhood (if you have cherry trees in your area) and go cherry tree spotting – count them with little kids or do a scavenger hunt as you walk. Neighborhood maps are even available in some places!
- Create a haiku about cherry trees and enter them in a contest
- Do some painting en plein air of any beautiful sights you find on your neighborhood walk. For people who live in the Vancouver area, a local company called Opus often hosts an outdoor painting challenge in the spring – join a challenge in your area or start your own!
St. Patrick’s Day
- Make some green eggs for breakfast!
- Plan a treasure hunt with gold chocolate coins
- Make a rainbow!
Easter
Easter was always a time of fun traditions for my family including a ham dinner, crafts, matching home-made dresses for my sister and I, and Easter baking and crafts!
- Paska is a sweet citrusy bread that is common in Eastern Orthodox traditions and in common with my Mennonite heritage. I actually don’t love it, but it’s an Easter tradition that my family loves so we make it together!
- Dye Easter eggs and make an Easter tree with branches found on a walk.
- It wouldn’t be Easter without an Easter egg hunt!
Spring!
Make a paper bag chick puppet and have a puppet show!
Hope you enjoy trying some of these out and please share the results with us on social media if you do!

Oo, the paska looks so light and delicious! I look forward to trying it and I quite enjoyed learning about your Mennonite heritage, as I have several close friends in the faith.
Treasure hunts are a yearly tradition for us that are so much fun! I also love the idea of writing spring-themed haiku and entering them in a contest. <3
